Joseon Ilbo 24/11/07 Johnson & Johnson - Seoji Cultural Vision CEO Jonghyun Sung's Visit to Korea

St. Mary's Eye Institute celebrates the introduction of the ELITA SILK Femtosecond Laser System, the latest vision correction device distributed by Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Surgical Vision.
According to the two companies, Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Surgical Vision CEO Sung Jong-hyun visited St. Mary's Eye Center on the 31st of last month to celebrate the introduction of the latest vision correction equipment, ELITA (ELITA SILK Femtosecond Laser System). He also discussed equipment testing and the future direction of vision correction with St. Mary's Eye Center CEO Park Jin-hyung.
J&J Surgical Vision is headquartered in the United States and Hong Kong, and distributes ophthalmic therapeutic materials and medical devices in Korea through its sales office, AMO Asia Limited (AMO). Elita is the next-generation corneal refractive laser device introduced by J&J Surgical Vision, enabling more precise and gentle vision correction through silk SMILE LASIK.
According to J&J Surgical Vision, the Elita Silk SmileLasik is the highest specification available, providing the most precise corneal cut with a laser diameter of 1 μm (micrometre, one-thousandth of a millimetre) compared to traditional smile surgery, and a power as low as 40 nJ (nanojoules, -9 parts per billion) to reduce the risk of surgical side effects and complications.
The laser diameter of third-party smile LASIK equipment is more than 3μm and the laser power is more than 100nJ, resulting in a relatively rough corneal surface after the laser.
J&J Surgical Vision said that clinically, the results of Silk Smilax have been excellent and stable, both immediately after surgery, at one day, and at one week and one month, confirming its promise as a leader in the next generation of Smilax.
“With the introduction of Elita, we are able to minimise corneal damage by using sophisticated laser technology and minimal energy to reduce the strain on the patient's eye, significantly lowering the risk of side effects and complications following Smilax surgery,” said Dr Park. “We are very encouraged to be able to offer a safer vision correction procedure.”.
